You can buy dozens of bottles of BBQ sauce at your local grocery store. But when you use a sauce made by someone else..."you takes what you gets". You are using a sauce that someone else created. BUT...when you make your own you can adjust flavors to your personal taste. Like it a little sweeter? Add some sugar. Like it a little spicy? Add some Tabasco sauce. So, the following recipe makes a pretty good basic BBQ sauce but we encoruage you to feel free to adjust ingredients to your taste to make it your own secret sauce.
We found the following recipe in an old church recipe book that was over 40 years old. The original recipe did not use liquid smoke so we added it for a little more "smoky" flavor.
This sauce goes well with BBQ beef, pork or chicken. It may be used for basting, as a marinate or served on the side at the table.
