As a child in the '30's, in the final days of the great depression, meat was a rare site on our dinner table. But there were always beans. Lot's of beans. They are cheap, filling and healthy. Of course beans for breakfast can get old very fast. Yes...we often had beans for breakfast. And, guess what? I liked them. I never did get tired of beans.
Perhaps I owe this to the cooking skills of my mom, the best cook I've ever known. She had a way of making ordinary food special.
Some food just goes together. Steak and potatoes, hot dogs and sour kraut, bacon and eggs. And...BBQ and beans.
So...you say...beans are just beans? Not so. There are beans and then there are "BEANS". This recipe is not just your ordinary beans. These flavor loaded beans are a little sweet, a little spicy and a lot yummy. The hot sauce is optional but you should include it (to taste) since it adds a little kick to these special beans. For a real treat serve these sorghum beans with your next barbecue.
