Home Made Ketchup Recipe
Probably not cheaper than buying from the store but it's fun to make. The primary reason to make you own is the ability to adjust flavors to suit your taste, rather than having to take what is offered on the shelf of the market. Want it a little sweeter? A little spicy? Just add a little more syrup and cayenne pepper. You can have whatever you want when you make your own.
Ingredients
* 28 oz. tomatoes (fresh or canned)* 1 cup onion, diced
* 1/2 cup white corn syrup
* 1/2 cup apple-cider vinegar
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
* 1/4 tsp. dried mustard
* 1/4 tsp. ground ginger
* 1/4 tsp. celery seed
* 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
* 1/4 tsp. allspice
* 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
Directions
1. Put the tomatoes through a sieve (strainer to separate pulp from juice), then transfer to a blender.2. Add the onions and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a large pot.
3. Add all of the remaining ingredients.
Cook over low heat for about an hour until the mixture thickens.
Note: Taste mixture after about 30 minutes of cooking. Add more of any ingredient desired to suit your taste. If mix it bland or watery add a couple tablespoons of tomato paste and a little more salt.
