Here is a yummy way to use those apples you got at the farmer's market or your back yard. The kids love this treat and it is somewhat healthier than many other desserts.
If you are concerned about putting wine in the recipe, be aware that the alcohol will cook away. All that is left from the wine is flavor. You may omit if you like.
Crockpot Baked Apples

3 hours 50 mins
Yield: 6 servings
o 6 large cooking apples (granny smith is a good choice)
o 3/4 cup orange juice
o 2 tsp. grated orange rind
o 1 tsp. lemon rind grated
o 3/4 cup rose wine
o 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
o 1/2 cup brown sugar
o Whipped cream, as needed, for topping
1. Remove core from apples and place in slow cooker/Crock Pot.
2. Mix together all other ingredients except whipped cream. Pour over apples.
3. Cover pot and cook on low for about 3 1/2 hours or until apples are tender.
4. Cool and serve with whipped cream on top of apples.
