This old Southern favorite, Banana Pudding, is sure to be a big hit at your house. It takes a little effort preparing this "made-from-scratch" version but we think it is the best. Some people prefer whipped cream instead of a meringue topping but meringue is the traditional Southern way. Your choice.
As a child, during the final years of the great depression, food was a matter of survival rather than enjoyment. And desserts were a rare treat. As a result, my mom, the best Southern cook I've ever known, rarely made this yummy dish. So it was always a special treat when she did. And, today, it is still one of my favorite desserts.
This recipe takes a little effort but is not difficult. Give it a try and you will be rewarded with many smiles around the table.
